Distance.

If you shine a laser pointer down a long hall, virtually immediately, you will see the red dot glowing exactly where you are pointing it. If you look in to the sky and see a star shining, the light from that star is potentially millions of years old already. When I contrast the already unbelievable speed of light to the time it takes to reach my eyes from a far away star, I’m amazed. I’m amazed that something so vast as our universe can exist. If you compare a spec of dust, to the size of our planet, you still don’t have a great enough difference to represent yourself to the universe. We are insignificant. This doesn’t mean that people are without purpose, it means we can have whatever purpose we choose. Our purpose is whatever we choose for ourselves. If we disappeared, the universe would not take any notice. If we disappeared though, what would existence matter to us anyway?
